Castelli an unfair advantage

Creating clothing for athletes at the highest level of the sport is the most demanding proving ground for Castelli. Ryder Hesledal was not only reaping the benefits of his light weight Cervélo R5ca bike on the first epic Giro mountain stage to Cervinia, the super light weight and quick drying Castelli Inferno shorts and Climbers jersey gave him an extra advantage in the big mountains.

CLIMBERS JERSEY – its almost impossible to see the difference between the Garmin Aero Race jersey and the Climbers jersey on television. Made from our super light weight Strada Light 3D mesh, and an aero Velocity fabric, it’s cut to hug the torso and to eliminate any excess fabric flapping when battling into the wind. It’s 90 grams of next-to-nothing, our quickest drying jersey ever, and it gives up just 3 watts at 40 km/h compared to the Aero Race jersey.

TEAM GARMIN-SHARP-BARRACUDA UNVEILS NEW KIT!

Slipstream Sports recently welcomed Sharp as a new co-title sponsor and today unveiled its new team kit, which will be ridden for the first time when the Belgian City of Liège will kick-off the 2012 Tour de France on Saturday.

The new jersey and shorts prominently display the Sharp logo and retain the distinctive Garmin and Barracuda logos. The signature Slipstream Sports Argyle is, of course, incorporated.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sharp to the team’s family. Team Garmin-Barracuda-Sharp is the most tech-savvy team in the peloton and the addition of this new sponsor, prominently displayed on the new kit, is special for all of us involved,” said Steve Smith, Castelli Brand Manager.

“Additionally, this team is rider-centric, and Castelli has done its part once again to make sure the riders have the most comfortable and technically-advanced clothing for all racing and training, and especially for the Tour de France. In addition to the new colors, the riders will be wearing the updatedlight weight hot weather shorts and jerseys that the Giro d’Italia crew  tested and improved. We’re counting on similar success with the clothing in the heat of France in July.”

The new Team Garmin-Barracuda-Sharp kit will be available by the beginning of August at Castelli dealers.

Rodriguez wins La Flèche Wallonne

Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) flew up the Mur de Huy to claim victory at the 76th staging of La Flèche Wallonne. Katusha controlled the wet and windy race allowing a few riders a small lead but always with a sense they had it covered..
Rodriguez, who had finished second in the previous two years, was part of a large chasing group led by Katusha with help from Lotto, that engulfed the 2 late breakaway riders who had held a slender 12 second gap for the final 10km, those two riders where Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin-Barracuda) and Lars Petter Nordhaug (Team Sky)
Rodriguez surged ahead in the last 700m and easily held off the challenge of Michael Albasini (GreenEdge) 2nd and defending champion Philippe Gilbert (BMC) 3rd for what was in the end a comfortable victory.

Congratulations to Team Garmin Barracuda riders Ryder Hesjedal for making the last 10km a nail biter and Dan Martin for a great finish. Here’s hope there is more to come at the weekend?
